Other day I heard my father talking to a friend about being "metabolically healthy" and made me curious to learn about it. sharing my understanding so far...
What is metabolically healthy ?
As per Yella Hewings-Martin, Ph.D., it means that your body can digest and absorb nutrients from the food that you eat without unhealthy spikes in blood sugar, blood fat, inflammation, and insulin.
What makes us unhealthy?
Something that you cannot control - age, sex, and your genes
Something that you can control - your food choices, stress, mental health, physical fitness, and your metabolism.
What it translates to?
Having bad cholesterol, high blood pressure, high sugar levels, and a growing waistline
Message for you
Being fit is beyond focusing on physical fitness alone. A holistic approach is required.
